What You Should Know About The Ultra Music Festival

Starday Records was mainly a country and western label when the rockabilly craze hit in 1954. Seeing an opportunity to cash in on the new music craze, Starday signed many rockabilly artists. These musicians created some of the greatest classic rockabilly records of the era. If you thought all the greatest rockabilly came out of Memphis' Sun Records label, you were wrong!

Rockabilly Pioneers Took Familiar Musical Forms and Developed a Genre All Their Own

Almost every fan of rock and roll knows the name Roy Orbison. His song "Pretty Woman" has become a classic and has been covered by many artists over the years. He's also known for his beautiful, smooth, and soaring voice which he used to such great effect on countless rock ballads like "Only the Lonely" which reached #2 on the charts and "Running Scared" which made it all the way to the top spot in 1960. But before he was recording these wonderful rock ballads, laced with string arrangements to compliment Orbison's amazing voice, he was recording rockabilly.

Michelle Williams Opens Up About The Death Of Heath Ledger

It has been a couple of years since the world suffered the sad loss of the brilliant Heath Ledger and this week, for the first time ever, Michelle Williams (the mother of his only child) opens up on Nightline about his death. Michelle appeared on the show to discuss and promote her new film with [...]

I am happy to report that for the first time ever, David and I will be spending Xmas together. Yes, in the almost 5 years that we have been together, we have never been able to spend Xmas together because one or both of us jetted off across the country to be with our parents. Thru a series of circumstances, David decided to stay here in LA with me … and we are very much looking forward to spending our first Xmas together.

We spent part of our evening yesterday picking out decorations for the tiny little Xmas tree we bought. My hope is that we will buy special new ornaments for our tree as the years progress and as our trees get larger. To be honest, we aren’t planning anything lavish for our Xmas night together … but we are looking forward to spending some time celebrating the season as a couple ;)

Last night, I made my way out to the Troubadour in West Hollywood, CA to see the amazing trip hop artist Tricky in concert:

I’ve been a fan of Tricky for years and have seen him a few times before in concert. He did not disappoint. His gravelly voice was in fine form last night and the sold out house just loved every second he was on stage. Unfortch, he decided to keep the lights down real low so I wasn’t able to snap any photos … but the show was fantastic. Last night’s concert was my last show of 2010 … not a bad way to end a year of great shows, let me tell you.

Today … more Xmas prep … I wanna run out and get some stockings and candy canes … you know, the usual. I hope your Xmas prep is going well … since it’s the night before the night before Xmas, we are all running out of time ;)

Learn To Play The Guitar And Survive Hard Times

To the question whether the violin and viola are same musical instruments - the answer is Yes and No. As compared to violin, the viola is much larger in physical size as well as longer string lengths. Besides, the viola is generally strung with thicker strings than the violin. The thicker strings of the viola mean that more pressure must be applied with the bow to make them produce sound.

Still - ouch! We bet someone's wishing that she was walking the red carpet at the premiere of Transformers: Dark of the Moon in a few months!

A Look At The History of Hip Hop

Mixtapes are compilations of songs and in the hip-hop world, and they developed from a technique to enjoy club music to an advertising tool. At first, DJs made money by recording their gigs, which served as a predecessor to rap albums. Had these been catalogued as rap records, artists like Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five would have gone platinum. Today, hip-hop artists use these cd's to generate hype for their music. Let's look back to find out how the genre reached this point.

Keith Urban Accused Of Attacking Paparazzo

A paparazzo by the name of Willem Pieterson has accused Australian country singer Keith Urban of going on the attack. Get the latest here on Urban’s run in last Wednesday in Nashville. Out and about having dinner with his actress wife, Nicole Kidman, in Nashville, Tennessee last Wednesday, Keith Urban allegedly became angry after a photographer, Willem Pieterson, began snapping pictures of the two celebrities as they were leaving a restaurant by the name of Giovanni’s. In a statement issued by Don Aaron of the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department to Gossip Cop, Urban (per Pieterson’s filed report) got into his car with Nicole Kidman and then proceeded to pull up to the photographer’s “vehicle in the wrong lane. Pieterson alleges that Urban yelled at him, and banged on his window” before getting out and then banging on Pieterson’s “car with his fist and kicked the rear passenger door.” The Nashville Police did however check out the paparazzi’s car and “observed that it was not damaged.” After reportedly going crazy on Pieterson’s vehicle you would think there would be some visible marks? After looking into the matter though it seems the authorities are now labeling it as an incident that “bears [...]

Justin Bieber Selena Gomez Sing Karaoke, Share A Kiss

Last night, one day before my actual birthday today, David organized a fun get together drinks thing at Saint Felix in Hollywood, CA with a few of my very close, beloved LA friends. As much as I’m not really all that excited about turning another year older (ugh), being able to hang out with all of my friends all in one place at the same time is deffo worth celebrating my birthday. Because we went crazy with the Polaroid camera, I totally failed to snap any photos with a digitial camera … or even my iPhone … but I can assure you, a great time was had by all :)

Eileen managed to get a photo of some of the photos we took so at least that is something. For one night, I totally forgot to play with Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Turntableeverything … and just spent time hanging out with my friends — in real life! I am, truly, the luckiest man alive. I have the best friends EVER. My Detroit friends, my LA friends, my NYC friends, my international friends — and all of YOU guys — make me feel like the luckiest guy. Thank you all so much for the kind messages (which started yesterday for me here last night when July 12 arrived in Australia). I love you all :D

Today, I’m making it a shorter work day because David, some friends and I are going to Disneyland! Despite my advancing age, I refuse to grow up … so I’ll be celebrating my birthday with Mickey Mouse and the gang. I hope YOUR July 12 is as amazing as mine will be.

balloon-boy-dad-sueing.jpg

Yeah, we don't imagine there's gonna be too many takers.

Richard Heene is still trying to milk all the attention he can out of his now infamous stunt involving NOT putting his son into a balloon that floated away. Sources have learned from Richard that he is on the hunt for a lawyer to help him sue the Colorado police and judicial system for putting him behind bars.

Why yes, he did admit that it was all a hoax! How good of you to remember! Yes, there is documentation of him pleading guilty to a felony charge of attempting to influence a public servant in connection with the incident. But all of that doesn't matter, you see…because he was set-up by the police to do all those things.

So what has he done? He's started reaching out to reputable & established law firms - on Craigslist. Here's his ad:

"I need an attorney to let me know if I have a lawsuit against corrupt cops and judicial system. A friend of mine thinks I do, so that friend put up videos on YouTube that you can look at to make a determination. The videos clearly demonstrate cops and a prosecutor lying. If you are an attorney and you are interested in taking this case on, then please contact me ASAP and I will send you the links. I have selected your city for the search, as the town of the incident can not be trusted. "

Such dirty dealers in his little Colorado town. Of course, how awful of them to blame you for deceiving the world for your own benefit and fame. Shame, shame, shame on them!

Who Would Be The Greatest Wedding Singers Of All Time?

Royalty Free Music is somewhat of a misnomer and is confusing for many people who are looking for inexpensive music for their production. What royalty free music really means in the general sense of the term is that the music can be used without the purchaser having to pay any more royalties if they use it more than once, they only have to pay a single fee. It does not however mean the music is free.

Movie Review: ‘Tree Of Life’

So … last night my friend Jordan asked me to accompany him to see the new Terrence Malick Film Tree of Life which stars Brad Pitt, Jessica Chastain and (briefly) Sean Penn. Yesterday was a very nice, very relaxing, very quiet day … and it was just what I needed. Tamar and Rob invited us over to relax and do nothing at their place yesterday and we jumped at the chance to just … hang out. No one cooked, no one had to life a finger … it was glorious. The weather was perfect, the company was amazing … in short, it was the best Monday ever.

The only bit of work that we did was to walk half a block to Froyo Life for some AMAZING frozen yogurt … but believe me, it was worth the effort to walk instead of having the dessert delivered. The bulk of our day was spent laying around, talking, laughing and eating … not a bad day at all, I’d say. Late last night, I met up with my BFF Jordan and we went to see the Terrance Malick film Tree of Life (review to come). After all the running around I’ve been doing in teh past few weeks, I really needed the “day off”. The fact that David and I got to enjoy our quiet day with dear friends made the day even better.

No plans for tonight!! Thank you, Jebus. Happy Tuesday!

pearl-jam-plans-20th-anniversary-festival

Wow! This will be an absolutely AMAZING way to pay tribute to their beginnings!

In honor of the 20 anniversary of the release of their first album, alternative rock band Pearl Jam is reportedly in talks to stage a two-day musical festival in "the middle of America," and featuring a variety of other acts!

Their manager, Kelly Curtis, reveals that the band will headline both nights, and will take place sometime in late summer, when Cameron Crowe's documentary chronicling their career is expected to drop.

Bassist Jeff Ament explains:

"We've played enough festivals that we know what makes them exciting. We want to give people places to go that aren't necessarily musical — second stages and all that kind of stuff. We're asking our friends if they want to play a couple of shows with us."

So cool! What a nice way to revisit the early '90s, and the music from that time!

We bet a lot of people are going to be VERY excited about this one!

paris-hiltons-stolen-birthday-cake-makers-respond-to-controversy

Well, they're taking the news pretty well!

In light of the news that Paris Hilton's $3,200 birthday cake was stolen by a drunken party crasher, the company that baked it, Lucid Absinthe, has issued the following statement:

“It is very unfortunate that someone stole the cake from Paris’s birthday party. We had the cake designed especially for Paris with Lucid in the batter and a beautiful representation of Lucid's artwork on it, which she had requested to meet the Moulin Rouge theme of the party. We’re happy that Paris and her guests were able to enjoy a night of Lucid cocktails, including the Paris Lemonade / Paris frozen Lucid Sorbet – and only wish that the guests could have tried her delicious cake. As for Paz, feel free to connect with us on the Lucid Absinthe Facebook page, where we would love to hear your side of the story and thoughts on the cake!”

Wowza! Sounds like they're just more concerned about getting feedback about how it tasted!

Ha! We still don't condone what happened, but at least there aren't too many hard feelings - at least on their end!
