DJ Stands For Disc Jockey

The history of hip hop is a colorful one, full of intrigues and branded with the sentiments of the American youth whose values were being rejected by the older generation at that time. Hip hop was not just a type of music. It was a subculture, a way of life for urban young people who sought to express themselves in an alternative way that requires little monetary investment, yet effective enough in providing an outlet for their repressed emotions.

How To Be A DJ Become A DJ In Less Time And Learn To Mix! Get DJ Gigs!

Having a warm-up routine right before playing for a gig or a major concert can really help a drummer loosen his/her body up. This is important because commonly, a single set can be composed of a minimum of 15-30+ songs in a single night. All those songs have their own different tempos and their own different arrangements which can really be physically demanding to a drummer.

Pia Toscano Inks Record Deal

She may not have won the American Idol title, but instead got a very nice consolation prize for Pia Toscano. A record deal with Interscope Records. So does it even matter anymore to win? Find out the deets behind the deal below. Pia Toscana fans can take pleasure in knowing that all is not lost with her early exit from last season’s American Idol. News of her signing on the dotted line with AI mentor Jimmy Iovine’s Interscope Records is all the buzz today. It has many wondering if she will follow suit and find some post American Idol success like many who were surprisingly booted off from the show early. For example… Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry, Adam Lambert, etc etc. The shocking early exit of Toscano is still talked about today, who very early on was dubbed a frontrunner to win it all. It’s hard to believe she ended up in 9th place. I hate to admit it, but I was a little miffed that the judges already used their ‘save’ on Casey Abrams when they clearly and more than likely would have used it on Toscano. I know, I know… America voted. I can’t blame the judges. Just [...]

Elin Nordegren Has A New Boyfriend: Jamie Dingman

Some happy news regarding Elin Nordegren. Jamie Dingham, the son of billionaire investor Michael Dingham, is her new boyfriend. They’ve been together now for months, according to the New York Post. We’ve got the deets here about the new love in Elin’s life. She definitely deserves some happiness, eh? It’s nice to see that the former Mrs. Tiger Woods has moved on with her life, after dealing with what was probably the biggest scandal to hit the golf world to date. Her ex-husband’s philandering ways were exposed to the world and the picture perfect life we all thought Elin had came crashing down around her. I can’t even imagine how she was feeling during that time, the multitude of emotions, all the while trying to keep it together for the sake of her children, Sam and Charlie. Elin and Tiger are of course now divorced, with Elin receiving $100 million as part of their divorce settlement. Fast forward almost a year later, where the former model is enjoying a new love in her life, Jamie Dingman. Who is this guy, you ask? The NY Post reported that he has handled his billionaire father’s business ventures in China for the past [...]

Filming Production On Season 2 Of Hawaii Five 0′ Is Underway

Filming production is in full swing on the Hawaiian set of Hawaii Five-0 which returns with its second season this Fall. So yesterday was our first (and only) full day here in Palm Springs, CA and while the temps were HOT as Hades, we managed to have a pretty fun time. Our friend Josh came out to Palm Springs for the weekend too so he hung out with us all day at the pool and all night at the club. The late night dancing options here in the desert are severly limited but we made the most of it. There was a lot of booze to keep the night well lubricated … ’twas fun, ’twas fun.

If you ever find yourself in Palm Springs and you’re lookin’ for a bitchin’ dance club, Toucan’s Tiki Lounge is NOT the place for you. But, because it’s like the only option, I guess you gotta make do. The DJ was pretty bad but he did, at least, play a few good songs. By the time the bachelorette party overtook the dancefloor (with huge inflatable penis in hand) it was time to bounce.

Late night desert turned into late night photobooth fun. We crashed out soon after and awoke today to, surprise, another scorching day! Because Carmageddon is ending early and the 405 highway is opening early back in LA, we’re leaving for home today. The weekend was fun but my guess is that Palm Springs is much more fun … in the Winter. I’m anxious to get back home … so, I’m out.

Top Tips For Singing Your Best

Of all the heroes you can point to in the rockabilly world, one of the greatest of all was not a hero because of what he did with his own music, but because of what he did for the music of others. Sam Phillips who owned a small Memphis recording studio called Memphis Recording Service and started the Sun Records label was every bit as responsible for the rise of rockabilly and the very formation of rock and roll as his biggest start, Elvis Presley.

Ryan Gosling Gets A Sweet Smooch From Eva Mendes

First, they went on a fun Disneyland date together … then they sneaked off to go hiking together … this weekend, Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes got caught making out in a car together. So yesterday was a big day for David’s sisters Lara and Eden. After months of training and fundraising for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Lara and Eden successfully completed the 2011 Nike Women’s Marathon. David, his brother Aram and his girlfriend Jodee were there to root for the ladies along the way and I managed to finish work early enough so that I could meet them all at the finish line. I couldn’t be prouder of the both of them … and you have to see their amazing photos below.

I actually and accidentally walked the last mile of the marathon. To meet up with David at the finish line (ahead of Lara and Eden’s arrival), I got dropped off at mile 25 and walked to the finish. It was really very cool to see Lara and Eden cross the line … they did a fantastic job. The whole weekend in San Francisco was fun but yesterday the ultimate culmination of awesome. The ladies not only achieved a personal best by finishing the marathon but they helped raise so much money to held find a cure for blood cancer. Just, amazing.

The rest of the day, as I’m sure you can imagine, was pretty relaxed. We chilled for most of the day before I jetted back home to LA. Tonight, I have a … thing … to do so I’ll be kinda M.I.A. for a bit. The week ahead is pretty bizzy … but it is great to be home.

Happy Monday!

How The Goth Scene Became Such Big Business

Not being able to slot things into genres is a thing that happens rarely. More so when it comes to music for we live in times where being the 'new' old thing is what makes it easier. Acquired Senses, the debut album of HFT, is the perfect antithesis to what the Indian non-Hindi and non-filmy music world has become.

Marquees for Sale and Hire for Different Occasions

Often time's common everyday items are overlooked in our quest for specific art decor which displays our individual perception of beauty and form. Perhaps in some far distant era of time our common products, which we take for granted, may perplex some future civilization as they attempt to distinguish what the items purpose and reason for being was. For this quest I have attempted to take my everyday manual can opener and reveal to the reader the true beauty associated with this functional utensil.

Rent Karaoke CDs for Your One Time Event

Up until a few years ago the only option for buying a guitar was to find a music shop in a high street, or more often than not a back street. With the coming of the information age the internet has changed the way we do many things in our lives, including the way many of us buy guitars. For many of us guitar players the thought of buying and paying for a guitar sight unseen would be unheard of, but a quick look at the auction sites show just how many instruments are being bought and sold.

A Easy Guide On How To Make Beats

Listening to sad country songs can indeed make people feel sad, especially if they are at their most vulnerable. They might have recently lost the ones they love the most like their lovers, family members, and friends. Most sad songs talk about the ups and downs of love, such as letting go of a loved one, healing broken heart, or moving on with life after a break up.

Last night David and I made our way to downtown LA to attend a theatrical performance by our friend Josh Z. and the rest of his troupe in Flash Theater LA. Flash Theater LA presents live theater in a spontaneous way and in random places. Last night’s performance took place right in the middle of downtown LA … and it was a very cool performance. Click below to check out some photos that I snapped last night.

The performance featured 4 different sets of performers all acting out the same short play in 4 parts of the same street. I had my doubts, to be honest, that “flash mob theater” would be good … but it was good. Better than good, actually. The story of a couple in love told in reverse was very clever and the acting was superb … despite the fact that my friend JZ was in it ;) We had a blast!

Tonight, I’m heading down to Anaheim, CA to see Bush in concert. I picked up a ticket a few weeks ago and, well, the time has come. I haven’t seen Bush in concert since I saw them in Oklahoma City, OK back in 1997 when they toured with Veruca Salt. It was the last concert I saw in OKC before I moved back home to Michigan after college. It’ll be good to see the guys live again … I hope. Happy Wednesday!!

Ideal Ways To Find the Beat in Salsa Music

While the most famous musician of Europe in the times of Mozart was a composer of African descent, the Chevalier de Saint George, Europe's premier violinist, fencer, colonel, and conductor of the largest orchestra of France, that of Queen Marie Antoinette, his incredible story remained submerged beneath the sands of time by European academia just like the socio-cultural contributions of the African peoples of the Empires of Ghana, Mali and Songhai whose men, women and children settled the New World...

Another Analog to Digital Exodus The World of DJing

Jazz has always been revered as a very colorful classification of music. You travel to another world when you listen to jazz. Jazz originated in New Orleans, LA in the early 1910s considerably due to the African-American residents. A combination of blues, ragtime, folk, and other types of music, jazz materialized as a kind of mimicry of European music of the age. Giving birth to numerous deviations over the years, jazz revolutionized the music stage in the south forever, employing brass, string, and percussion instruments.

Finding the Right Karaoke Machine for Singing

The West African djembe drum which is pronounced "jembe" originated from the Mali Empire which was a medieval civilization of West Africa and dates back many centuries. The African drums were and still are used for ceremonial purposes and usually have rattles made from tin attached to them as well as Ksink Ksinks. Last night David and I braved the rain so that we could grab a drink in West Hollywood so that we could get some fresh air out of the house. We talked about going to a movie but couldn’t decide on what to see so we decided to just go bar hopping instead. We made a pilgrimage to The Abbey in West Hollywood so that we could visit the memorial set up for the late Elizabeth Taylor and drink a toast in her honor.

The Abbey was one of Taylor‘s favorite nightspots in LA and she would frequently show up at the bar to visit with her throngs of gay fans. The portrait of her pictured above has been on display at The Abbey for years … and it has now become a memorial in her honor. The New York Times even published a piece on the Abbey‘s memorial to Elizabeth Taylor … it’s a great read. It’s still very sad to know that Dame Elizabeth is no longer with us but her memory will live on forever.

Our friends Michael and Sam joined us for a drink last night and we had a great time hanging out. Tonight, David and I will be going to the Music Box to see Oh Land and OMD in concert. This will be my 3rd Oh Land concert in two months and my first time seeing OMD live in concert. The weekend is here, y’all!! I hope you have a great one!!

One of the basic skills you will need to learn is knowing what seeds to plant and the time it will take to harvest the mature plant. Just buying seed based on the time it will take them to grow is not the best strategy. Most importantly you must know how often you can log into your Facebook account and access Farmville.

Essential Foods to Eat Before Singing

Classical music in strict terms is music that was written and composed during a very specific time period. This time period is 1750 to 1820. What is it that sets this particular period apart from the Baroque period which comes right before or the Romantic which is the period right after? These are not just random dates that some forgotten historian chose, but rather refer to the actual way that the music was composed.

Take Your Music To A New Level With The Help Of Music Maker Software

When writing a song, what comes first: the melody or the lyrics? I don' think it has to be either. When I write I compose both simultaneously. I also don't see a need to 'rough draft' my songs. I find it more beneficial to write and rewrite one line at a time till I have finished copy. Ultimately, the best method to employ is the one that works for you.
